Every word,right on time.
Submatic is the caption studio whose preview is the render: what you approve in the editor is exactly what the export burns in. Upload to finished file in about a minute.
10 free minutes every month. No credit card.
Four promises.
The preview is the render
One engine draws the editor and burns the export, so what you approve is what ships. No export-and-check-and-export-again loop.
Typography no one else has
Per-word fonts and sizes, variable-font weights, gliding highlights, rounded caption cards — not a color picker taped to a preset.
Fair minutes, in writing
Billed to the second, refunds automatic, nothing expires mid-cycle. The full rules are one short, public page.
Long-form welcome
No per-video length cap on any plan. One upload can run four hours, from the same minute pool as everything else.
Edit subtitles like a document.
There is no timeline to scrub. Your transcript is text: click a word to correct it, and the timing stays put. Splitting, merging, and re-timing happen in place while the preview keeps pace.
The preview is the render.
Most tools preview with one engine and export with another, so you find the differences after the render, five exports deep. Submatic draws its preview with the same subtitle engine that burns the file, and the export matches down to the pixel. The same project, side by side:
Typography no one else has.
Submatic is a type studio. Presets are the starting point, and every detail underneath stays yours to change, down to a single word.
Per-word everything. Any single word can carry its own font, size, and emphasis. Nothing gets stamped across the whole video.
Real font control. Upload your own faces, including variable fonts. Pick the exact weight and it renders identically in preview and burn.
Motion with restraint. Highlight pills glide between words, colors ease instead of snapping, and entrances are set per element, not per template.
Layout that obeys. Rounded translucent caption cards, line height, line fit, manual breaks. The caption block sits exactly where you put it.
Fair minutes. No credit casino.
Billing horror stories are this category’s specialty: expiring credits, charges for failed exports, renewals you find on a bank statement. So we wrote down how we bill, and we treat that document as part of the product.
Billed to the second
A 61-second video costs 61 seconds of your pool, not a “2-minute credit”.
Failed jobs refund themselves
If a job errors out, its seconds come straight back. Automatically, not on request.
Nothing expires mid-cycle
Your minutes are a monthly pool, not credit packs that evaporate while you sleep.
Hard stop, not surprise overage
Run out and we pause and tell you. We never quietly bill you past your plan.
Cancel in two clicks
Self-serve, from your account page. No email thread, no retention bot.
No renewal ambushes
Annual plans get a reminder email a week before they renew. Crypto plans are prepaid, so there’s nothing to cancel at all.
Bring the whole podcast.
Caption tools usually cap a video at a few minutes unless you buy the top tier. Submatic has no per-video length cap on any plan — a single upload can run up to 240 minutes, drawing from the same minute pool as everything else. Podcasts, lectures, webinars, full interviews: word-level captions all the way through.
Cut the dead air.
Submatic reads every silent pause from the word timings and drops it from the export. The preview plays the tightened cut, so you hear exactly what ships — and because we bill the trimmed length, a cleaned-up recording costs fewer minutes, not more. On every plan.
Then pull the clips.
Point Submatic at a long recording and it reads the transcript for the moments worth sharing — the 20-to-120-second highlights — ranks them, and hands you a shortlist. Keep the good ones, nudge a boundary, and export each with the same word-perfect captions. Fewer, better clips, not twenty you have to sift through. On paid plans.
Pay for minutes, not seats.
Every plan includes transcription in 50+ languages, the full editor, video export, and SRT / VTT export. Paid plans remove the watermark and add styled .ass export; annual billing saves up to 40%.

Minutes are processing minutes: transcription and each video export draw from the same monthly pool, billed to the second, and failed jobs refund automatically. How billing works.
Common questions.
What can I upload?
MP4, MOV, WEBM and most common video formats, up to 240 minutes and 2 GB per file, on every plan. There is no shorter per-video cap on cheaper tiers.
How accurate is the transcription?
98%+ on clear audio, across 50+ languages. Every word stays editable, so fixing the last 2% takes seconds, not a re-render.
How does auto-clip work — does it make vertical clips?
On paid plans, point Submatic at a video over two minutes and it scores the transcript for the most shareable 20-to-120-second moments, then hands you a ranked shortlist to trim and caption. It keeps your video's original frame — there's no automatic vertical reframe yet — and every clip exports with the same word-level captions as the full video. Starter includes 10 generations a month, Pro 30, Studio 100.
Can I export just the subtitle file?
Yes. SRT and VTT export is included on every plan, Free included. Paid plans also export .ass with your full styling intact, for finishing in Premiere, Resolve, or any editor that takes subtitle tracks.
Do unused minutes expire?
Your pool refills on your monthly cycle date; within the cycle nothing expires and there are no credit packs. Failed jobs refund automatically, and when the pool runs out we pause instead of silently billing overage.
What happens to my video afterward?
Your project — video, transcript, edits, exports — stays available to re-open for your plan's history window (7 days on Free, up to 365 on Studio), then it is deleted from our servers. You can delete a project yourself at any time, and your content is never used for training.
Is there really a free plan?
Yes. 10 minutes of transcription, the full editor, and real video exports every month, free, no credit card. Free exports carry a small submatic.ai watermark; upgrading removes it.
Can I use my own fonts?
On paid plans: upload up to 3 (Starter), 10 (Pro) or 25 (Studio) font files, including variable fonts with a weight picker, and captions render with them in both the preview and the export.
Your next video, subtitled.
Upload a video and watch the words land, one by one.
